The former city of Saint-Nicolas is located right before the bridges to Québec City if you are coming from the west part of the province. Renowned for its agriculture, Saint-Nicolas proposes farms where you can easily pick your own strawberries. There are also a large number of orchards, which allows Cidrerie et Vergers Saint-Nicolas to offer delicious local products everywhere in Québec. Besides, agriculture is one of the only industries from the past that still exists in Saint Nicolas. Brick-making and wood-cutting industries have been replaced by manufactures and truck companies throughout the years.
From an administrative point of view, the size of Saint-Nicolas has been transformed more than once during its existence. First, there was the parish of Saint-Nicolas, founded in 1668. Then, in 1692, the parish became the city of Saint-Nicolas. In 1912, this city was separated in two areas: Saint-Nicolas-Sud and Saint-Nicolas. After a local contest, and to avoid the confusion between the two names, Saint-Nicolas-Sud became Bernières in 1968. Then, in 1994, the two areas merged and, for a few years, became the city of Bernières—Saint-Nicolas. Finally, in 2002, Saint-Nicolas became an integral part of the new city of Lévis and lost its title as a city. The name is still in use, but only to designate the area that corresponds to the territory of the former city.
