The Fort-Numéro-Un de Lévis overlooks the majestic St. Lawrence River and is the last of a series of three forts that were built to protect the city against invasions. The English built the fort between 1865 and 1872. It was a great complement to the Québec City defensive system and allowed soldiers to defend the city against American invasions.
Nowadays, you can visit the tunnels, blockhouses, caponier, patrol path and the ramparts. Climb to the top of the Fort, from where you will have a breathtaking view of the city and the region. You can also take advantage of the picnic area and the path in the woods. Come enjoy the commented visits that will tell you everything about the secrets of the Fort.
From May 2010 to May 2012, Parks Canada will be presenting Canadians with its experiences, programs and services, with offers including the chance for second-year high school students to get free visits to the parks and history sites administered by Parks Canada. An excellent initiative linking the past to the present!
Throughout 2010, the Parks Canada Agency is organizing festivities to mark the inauguration of Banff National Park in 1885. This national park, the first in Canada, was the start of a series of initiatives that provides today for the protection of more than 200 natural and historic treasures: 167 national historic sites, 42 national parks and three national marine conservation areas. Come join us in celebrating these priceless moments that marked our history!
