L’Islet

At low tide, if you take a walk by the water, you might have the chance to see the footprints left by Curé Panet on the rock bearing his name and on which stands a cross. Nearby, the parc du Havre du Souvenir is a very famous gathering place during important events like the Quebec national Holiday and Labour Day. In any season, L’Islet has all kinds of activities to propose like hiking, cycling in the Appalachian Mountains, skiing, snowmobiling as well as sugar shacks and maple groves touring.

Above all, stop at the Musée maritime du Québec, which houses the most important maritime object collection of the province. Four exhibitions will take you back in time to make you discover life on board the Ernest-Lapointe ice-breaker. You will also learn the secrets of traditional boat making at the Chalouperie and you can visit the Hydro-Québec interpretation centre. Visit the Maison Dion, an ancestral house in which Dr. J.-A. Dion’s granddaughter and Captain Luc Pelletier, the former governor of Île Anticosti, will tell you the history of the last 5 generations. You will also find here a vast collection of ancient objects and a few thematic exhibitions.
