Grosse-Île

Grosse-Île is linked to the Île de Grande-Entrée by the Réserve nationale de faune de la Pointe-de-l’Est. The Île Brion and the Rocher-aux-Oiseaux are two uninhabited islands located off Grosse-Île that you can visit during a boat excursion when the time is mild.

Since the archipelago stands on immense salt domes, the Mines Seleine started to exploit this ore in 1983 at the Rocher-du-Dauphin on the sand dune that links Grosse-Île and Pointe-aux-Loups. You cannot visit the mine, but the Centre d’interprétation Les Portes de l’Est presents an interesting exhibition on the fascinating world of salt. Keep on going towards the Île de la Grande-Entrée and you will reach the Plage de la Grande Échouerie, at the end of which you can see seals playing in the water. This beach can welcome the entire family and is under the watchful eye of a lifeguard.
