Notre-Dame-des-Pins is a small municipality of 1,000&nbp;people and was the starting point of gold diggers in the 19th century. The city's covered bridge was built in 1929 to allow villagers to safely cross the beautiful Chaudière River. It is the longest covered bridge in the province of Quebec and the second longest in Canada, with its 154.5 metres (500 feet)!
Back in those days, many covered bridges were part of Quebec's natural landscape. People built them like so because they lasted longer. Nowadays, you can walk or bike across the bridge and it transforms into a snowmobile path in winter. A rest area has been built nearby.
